Following Seaholm, I attended MSU and studied economics. More importantly, during my senior year I met up with Carol Stelter again (small world)! We got married soon after graduating at the tender ages of 21. Of course, that was 48 years ago, and we’re still going strong and enjoying all that life has to offer including our three children, their spouses, and soon to be seven grandchildren. I was fortunate enough to enjoy three different phases of my business career. The first was with General Electric where I pursued a finance, marketing, and general management career (with a leave of absence to attend Harvard Business School for my MBA). The second was Venture Capital. I left GE after 15 years to join a VC partnership called InterWest Partners, where I was a general partner for 14 years and helped build early stage companies primarily in the healthcare and IT sectors. One of those companies was Vendavo (a software company focused on enterprise pricing) , which led to the third phase. I joined Vendavo as its CEO and led its development from a very early stage company to a leader in its category. I enjoyed all three phases, but leading an emerging company like Vendavo was the most intense and rewarding experience of them all! Since retiring, Carol and I are enjoying our home in California, and have three main passions – our grandchildren, travelling, and golf. I’ve also had the opportunity to serve on the Board of Rocketship Education, a public charter school network operating over 20 elementary schools serving underprivileged communities across the country. Carol and I regret being unable to attend the reunion in person due to family obligations. Thanks Wood for doing such a great job of organizing the event!
