After Seaholm graduation, I attended MSU and studied education. During my junior year, I joined an overseas program in London for three months. This was my first trip overseas and started my life-long love of traveling. Our group of students took classes Monday through Thursday then, for the long weekend, we all traveled as far as we could throughout Europe. After returning to MSU, I ran into Al Crites, who I knew through mutual friends at Seaholm, and we were married a year later! Al and I shared our love of travel, music and the outdoors. Al worked at General Electric in the financial management program and was transferred to different divisions of the company. We moved around the Midwest and East six times in the next fifteen years including a stop in Boston where Al studied for his MBA. I taught elementary school until the birth of our children, two daughters and a son. Over the years, I volunteered at their schools, setting up a writing program and tutoring reading. I also spent fifteen years recording books for a nonprofit, recording for the Blind and Dyslexic. Our next moves were to Dallas where Al joined a venture capital partnership and then, four years later, to the partnership headquarters in Palo Alto, California. We have lived here for the past 27 years and California opened up fantastic opportunities for hiking and traveling. We continue to travel in retirement and we celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary in Iceland. Our three children and 7 grandchildren keep us busy too. Al and I are disappointed to miss the reunion but family obligations have made travel back to Michigan difficult at this time. I’ve enjoyed reconnecting with friends over Zoom calls this past year and can’t wait to see the reunion photos!
